10 Tips to Healthy Weight Loss

by Keith Kemp.

1.  Eat Breakfast
This is the most important factor in stimulating your metabolism for the day.  A rule of thumb is to eat something within the first hour after you wake up.  Have you ever eaten breakfast one morning, then became hungry again by 10:00 a.m.?  That’s a sure sign of a stimulated metabolism.  You stimulated your metabolism early in the day by eating breakfast, thereby making you hungry earlier.  Then, the next day, you skipped breakfast and didn’t get hungry until noon?  Well, skipping breakfast forces your body to conserve energy so it slows metabolism to keep you from starving.

2.  Eat 4-6 Small Meals Every Day
A snack is a mini-meal.  It should include a mix of healthy proteins, carbs and fats, just like every other meal.  It may be smaller in size than your main meals, but should contain the same ingredients.  Eating every 3-4 hours is a good rule of thumb to get you on your way to healthier eating.

3.  Eat when you are hungry
A well-fueled, well exercised body sends you hunger signals you can trust.  No more forcing yourself to not eat when your body tells you to eat.  Try to stick to proteins and vegetables after 7:00 p.m., but grab a healthy snack before bedtime to avoid being hungry in the morning.  Give your body what it needs and it will give you what you want.

4.  Eat high-quality, unprocessed foods whenever possible
As a rule of thumb, if you have no idea what a “food” is made from then your body probably has just as much trouble figuring it out and what to do with it when you eat it.  If you don’t know what the original source of the food is, don’t eat it.

5.  Perform moderate to heavy weight training
Exercise stimulates muscle by working it past its current ability, which stimulates metabolism to repair the muscle after a workout.  It should be challenging enough that you can only get between 6-12 reps before becoming tired.

6.  Perform Aerobic Interval Training
Make sure you alter your intensity level throughout your cardio workout to boost your metabolism as your body shifts energy use to handle the changing demands of your workout.

7.  Get Plenty of Sleep
The lack of sleep will definitely drive you to overeat as your body tries to get the energy to function.  The inevitable sluggishness that comes from overeating ruins metabolism.

8.  Eat healthy Fats
Fats are your friend.  You need them.  Without them, your body can’t do many of the things it needs to do to keep you from functioning properly.  Nuts, seeds, avocadoes are great sources of healthy fats.

9.  Eat less Junk
Do we even need to say this?  Yes.  If you eat a lot of junk now, cut it down slowly.  Remember, you are what you eat.

10.  Your body builds itself from your habits!
Noone is perfect.  Remember that you don’t have to eat perfectly all the time.  Just eat soundly most of the time.  A daily handful of Skittles is much worse than a bowl of ice cream once per week.
